'Animal style' and 'I’ve only killed one man'‏          May 27, 2013

I get emails from Stuart. It sounds like he is FB Garret everyday his spiritual message like he did with me, so he will probably email me lots. You can give the email to family, but try to encourage more people to write or else your letters are going to get shorter and shorter since we only have so much time and it takes time to read them.
Also as people are asking give out my apt address because I am like 3 hours from the mission home and we have to pick up our mail from them, so I haven’t gotten anything yet. Not because no one is sending it but because it’s going to the mission home and I am far from it! I am in the Northern most mission!
So I mention about the June 9th meeting. I guess here is what we know: On June 9th the keys of the kingdom are coming to talk to our Stake. And that’s  it, not knowing who (for the safety of the leaders, and in case it changes) so we are all excited for that to find out who is coming and why!
Also they are working on building a visitors center up in Sesqwehana. This is where the Priesthood was restored in this dispensation. Its the last of the church history sites. But they have been fighting with the city to move the high way that runs right by it, there was a mayor or someone on the board who was fighting it mighty hard.
This man had family who was affected by the storm, Sandy. After the storm the church has sent volunteers upon volunteers to help with storm clean up and rebuilding where ever we can help. The family of this man had a lot of awesome interactions with the church members and they helped him, his family, his community etc. in such great ways that he heard about the mayor who was fighting getting the road moved. So he had a chat with him and told him his experience and that he had better be taking care of our church and its members since we took care of him and his family in their time of need.
The mayor came back and stopped fighting the road being moved. We now have it arranged and I believe construction is starting on the high way to move it.
The Lord works in mysterious ways I must say! What a miracle from an unexpected way.
I did get your package mom, thank you for the CD its great! We do have a CD player in our apt and our truck, so if anyone feels so inclined as to send me some uplifting music on CD that would be AWESOME! The rule is that it should be uplifting and not detract from the spirit. Doesn’t matter if its MOTAB or church published etc. oh and no romantic, so uh Keira? You wanna make me some :) I would love you forever!
Okay I guess I should fill you in on mission life and my fun stories :)
First my companion and I get along really well. We are pretty similar. Neither one of us is the 'oh my goodness your my best friend and favorite person ever!' kinda girl which is nice. She gets intimidated really easily, don’t worry not by me! I am nice to her! But she is intimidated by  some of our branch presidency and different people who I am surprised she is intimidated by. She is really sweet and very nice. If she needs to correct something she’s good about not doing it in an offensive way. Also she is not easily offended.... which is GOOD! Cause apparently I’m offensive, or so people tell me.
I give her a hard time however, but she does it right back. So this is her last transfer and then she is heading home! Which is scary because that means I am taking over our area, and also I will most likely be training because we have so many new sisters coming in. So instead of the normal 12 weeks to be trained into mission life and then have an older comp or two, yeah I get 6 weeks to learn it and then I will probably be teaching a golden... as a golden (greenie) which is scary.
Anyhow, we were at district meeting and sister Suckow was talking about how great her trainer is and what a great example she is, and what do I say about MY trainer? "yeah, it’s a little different when your trainer is about to die..." (die in mission speak = going home/done with the mission) and all of the Elders start hollering at her and oooh ing and  aaaaah ing. Sister Honomichl looks at me and glares and says something like "just you wait child!" (Mother/child in mission speak = trainer/train-ee). So my district leader asked me to call in safe that night. (We call our District leader every night to report that we are in and safe, so he wanted to hear my voice as proof that she didn’t kill me). Which was funny, and we’ve been laughing about it since.
Okay heres a great story. The first night in our area we have dinner with our ward mission leader, Brother Liggett. They had a roasted chicken and passed it to us to start. Sis Liggett asked Bro L to carve it for us but he said "The sisters can do it, use your hands animal style" and passes me the chicken. I am sitting there thinking where the heck am I? Because Montrose is very small, and so Im like wow we are red neck! So what do I do? I start digging into the chicken with my hands, 'animal style'. And Im trying for a minute to tear apart this chicken, and to no ones surprise it’s not working very well.
After a minute Sister Honomichl looks over at me and starts laughing. And I start asking her 'how am I supposed to do this?!' then of course the Liggetts look over and start laughing. Brother Liggett takes pitty on my and as I’m wiping the grease of my fingers he uses his fork and the fork that was on the other side of the chicken (which I couldn’t see) to tear apart the chicken so we could serve it.
Yeah for 'animal style'. I totally looked like a fool. Good thing it was just the Liggetts! Because we see them often enough that I can prove Im not completely idiotic.

Oh and the first lesson I go to teach. We go to teach this man named Louie. Louie is one of our investigators currently. He had a stroke a while ago and it has affected his left side so he uses a walker and such. He speech is a little hard to understand so I was following sister H for most of it. I don’t remember what we were teaching, but at the end we were talking about the 10 commandments and he listed them off. He got to 'thou shalt not kill' and then stopped and said 'yeah, I’ve only killed one man'. And I was thinking, no he didn’t just say that... there’s no way he would tell us that! I thought I misunderstood him. Sister Honomichl says 'haha, are you joking Louie?' and he says 'No! I’ve only killed one man!' He then tells us a story about how this (excuse my language, he is an old man) Black man, jumped onto his truck (like an 18 wheeler) while he was stopped at a stop light. He said 'the light turned green so what do you do? You go! So I went and when I did he fell off and got runned over.'
We promptly ended the lesson and walked out a little stunned, he went into a lot more detail and explained that it was okay because he was obviously going to rob him! Oh Louie, he’s a crazy old man!
Other things that have happened, well we had dinner with a member and we had Nathan's Hot Dogs! I thought mom would appreciate that, since she knows what those are, sorry if the rest of you don’t. We had dinner with family who invited their neighbors and they were from NY! I told them I was born in Queens and he said where? So he knew flushing then started asking me if I knew where x, y and z where so I told him I didn’t know.
Anyhow. Its been an exciting week! Love you all! Thanks for the emails and letters, hope all is well!
Also, in the next box you send mom, can you send some more vitamins? I just finished my multi vitamins and will run out of calcium soon. Anyhow, give my love to everyone!

Love, Sister Wilson

Monday May 20, 2013
To: Lynn & Keirs Wilson
Well first off what is Emoji? It is typed randomly throughout your letter... weird.
But yes I am in Montrose PA and it is beautiful! Its bigger than Vernonia, but not big by any means. That day care you were talking about? Yeah that’s where we live. Each floor is an apt and we are on the middle floor (ground level) which is nice. And our up and down stairs neighbors both have kids so we always have toys and strollers and what not on our porch and such.
My companion is Sister Honomichil (Hon (like Hon Solo) - a - michael) She is 23 and this is her last transfer! Normally you stay with your trainer for 12 weeks but she is leaving in 6 and then I will be taking over the area. I guess every sister that was in the mission is now training a golden (they don’t call us greenies we are goldens, because of our golden potential) I love it. But anyhow, all the sisters in the mission are training except for 2, who are companions. I guess by this summer we are going to have 250 missionaries in our mission and before the age change we had 150. It’s crazy out here! Oh and President Shafermeyer is going home at the end of this transfer as well, so I will meet yet another Mission Prez in a mere 5 weeks! CRAZY! But we are excited to meet President Anderson as well. You can look him up somehow the church has profiles on all the new presidents. I’m nervous only to see if he is more strict than Pres. S. We are allowed to listen to any music that is uplifting, like anything, thats the rule it cant drive the spirit away. And we are a Facebook proselyting mission so we will see if that stays or what gets changed when he leaves.
Whoever told us our mission was only one hour wide was a big fat liar. I met my trainer at the meeting they do and then we ended up staying with missionaries who lived half way to our area because it was a 4 hour drive to our apt. Oh and we drive a truck, his name is Hank :) Its so fun! Oh and Keira, here’s the funny karma for laughing at how scared you were for parallel parking.
In town they were having a chocolate and wine festival, which means all parking, was taken. So when we got home that night we had to parallel park in front of our house, in a truck.... that was the first time I’ve ever had to do that. And it was funnier because Sister Honomichil had to back me up, since we are missionaries, which was actually helpful but still funny! So laugh all you want, but it was nice having just talked about it and explained it to you, mostly taking Janelle’s advice with aligning your mirrors and what not, glad that I was listening when she was explaining it to you, it helped a lot!

I ended up getting a handful of letters on my last day in the MTC so I am working on responding to them. Don’t post my email because there is really no time to read and respond to more than you, I can print but I have to pay to do it, and I don’t know if I will be able to in other areas.
I email on mondays about this time every week. We are at the library in town (by 'the green') but we always clean and then go to the library to email. So its around 11 here.
dont erase stuff that isnt a student update or any junk coupon mail. I think I get stuff from the store where I bought my boots too but maybe not.
Okay the blog. To add something to the blog like that, well. I dont know that you need to. I think you might be able to edit it. See if there is something that pops up and lets you edit the MTC address box and you can change it to my current area, that would be the easiest. Other wise you have to go into I think they call it a tool bar, or a widget or a giget or something and then pick one that will let you add text and format it to be what you want it.

Here is my apt address, give it to everyone! I cant wait to hear from Ethan, and tell Estrella shes a punk and needs to write me! I haven’t heard from her at all, but she might be on vacation still, or recovering. So she has a little bit of le-way, but not a ton!
Sister Kindra Wilson       42 S Main street #1     Montrose,  PA 18801
The members are VERY missionary minded here. We have a branch that’s almost big enough to be a ward, they just need a little more priesthood, but I guess they have been close several times before and it hasn’t happened.
We have a dinner appointment for every evening, and we are making a new program where they feed us and then come out with us. They were previously signing up one person to feed and another person to come out but we were spending way to many miles running back and forth. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to get from the top to the bottom of our area. Its HUGE! And so spread out, and I have driven on more dirt roads than hard roads every day. Which is why we drive a truck, we need 4 wheel capabilities to not get stuck. I hope I’m not here in the winter when its super snowy. It did snow here the day before I got here, but it has been nice weather so far. It was a little muggy this morning, not enough that I would call it humid but it was muggy for sure.
I love it out here! We taught one lesson this week to a man who we are now trying to get him to stop chewing, but he said he wants to come to church next week and he has a friend who wants to come too so we will see what happens there.
We have a senior missionary couple in our area too! Elder and Sister XXXXX, they are so cute! But we definitely wear them out. We are going to their place to do our laundry and spend the rest of P-day writing letters and everything. And we have an awesome ward mission leader, Brother XXXX and his wife and his mom, we call her Momma duke she is so funny! I love them already. Both the XXXX and the XXXX tell us that if we are hungry that they will feed us, so its nice. When someone cancels we just go to them  and eat! Its so nice :)
Sorry we didn’t get to talk more on Tuesday, I wish I would have just called you earlier but oh well. I thought we would have more time, but our plane was delayed. And in that 10 minutes we had once we got to the gate to the time they started boarding all of us girls ran into the bathroom to put on make up and do anything with our hair before we met the President. It was so... awful... and funny at the same time. That morning was crazy! And that evening we had so many pictures taken, that day will forever live in infamy in our minds. It was awful.... but way cool to be on the plane with 31 missionaries! We were like half the plane! On the first one I was just sitting next to an elder, no opportunities there. And then on the next flight he and I sat on either side of a man. And wouldn’t you know it- I was talking to him as we were waiting to take off and what not and the conversation dulled. So right as we started taxying out to leave the Elder next to me started talking about the BOM and as we were taking off he was bearing his testimony and that man had a Book of Mormon in his hands before we hit the altitude we needed. I was impressed with him! The man was like 'was that the first time you’ve done that?' and the elder was like yeah, and the guy said he did a good job. He was really nice and he actually took the Book, not sure if he will read it or not but he’s got one now!

Good job for getting as far as you did Keira! ( In Track) Now keep it up and start running more :) congrats to Matthew! Hawaii will be so cool! I hope Stuart gets in to the AF, sounds like it will be a good thing for them. It would be fun to have them around ya’ll. Why is Garret going to Hawaii? Is that where his buddies are all meeting up or something? Sounds like fun though!

We got to see the site for the Phily Temple and it’s right now a big hole in the ground, but it looks so cool. Go on the temple website or church news and search for Philadelphia Temple and you can see the rendering of what it will look like, super neat.
Oh! That part of NY in my mission that I didn’t know what it was? That’s actually the site where the Priesthood was restored! And they are going to be I think breaking ground for the visitors’ center that they are building. It’s the last of the church History historic sites they have to build and has a crazy cool story. The church has been working with the city to get them to move the freeway, yes move the freeway, because it goes right by it. So they finally got permission after years of working with them and are starting on it soon. So on June 9th someone, we don’t know who yet, is coming to do something for a secret meeting. It’s not really a ground breaking, but it’s some sort of meeting with some unknown person coming and its the last of the historic church history sites. That’s all we know and its driving everyone crazy wanting to know who is coming, an Apostle? Someone in the first Presidency? The Prophet?! Wouldn’t that be cool!!! We’re not sure we are all just sitting and waiting. But that will be in June so, I’ll keep you posted on what I know but its super cool!
Well I think it’s about that time. Thanks for your emails and your prayers! Keep em coming! Love you all! Sister Wilson :)

Thursday May 9, 2013

YES my first email! Glad you got to see everyone and the kids and what not, and jealous of your massage! That sounds Heavenly! Sorry that the hotel room was so bad. And actually we heard the track meet going on. We were studying outside one day and they were BLASTING their music so it was kinda distracting, and started to rain so we went back inside. I’m sad I missed Devon and Monica! I can’t believe we timed that so close! And I ended up being the last one in my district to report so they were all sitting in our classroom and talking so I walked in and sat in the only empty desk.
We had a big group meeting on the first day and I ran into Elder Sellers and Elder Ridd! So funny. I see both of them pretty much at every meal time so that’s fun to have some familiar faces. I also found one of my old FHE sisters Sister Milligan on campus so fun! I ran into Brother Whitnah at the bookstore and then I saw Sister Whitnah on campus as well. Im trying to think of anyone else Ive seen on campus but I don’t remember right now.

My district is awesome! We have 6 sisters going to Philly together, and our 6 elders are going to Chicago (Which is where my teacher Sister Smith is serving so that is kinda cool). The other district in our zone left Monday morning and they all went to Guam which is cool. But out of that district Sister Bryce is going to Australia and her visa hasn’t come yet so she is waiting for that. She’s still here in the MTC with us and just got reassigned today to Tennesse. Im glad she’s her she is so fun to have!
My district is so awesome. There are two elders who I would swear I know from somewhere but we have no connection, so we have decided that we were friends in our pre-Earth lives :) They are so fun. I am the oldest person in my district by at least 2 years, my companion is the youngest. Sister  Suckow (like suit coat without the 't's' so sui coa). any how well they are all from Utah and I don’t even pretend to remember where cause I don’t know where anything is in Utah. But sister suckow just turned 19 the week before the age change. And its so funny how well the Lord knows you because we work together so well! She is a sweet heart and is so enthusiastic I am learning so much for everyone in my district. But we teach really well together. Its fun. And, a fun fact for you: there are 27 missionaries flying to Philly with us. 14 Elders and 13 Sisters. We don’t really know anyone outside of the 6 of us but we feel like we were all meant to be together we are such good friends.
We also have Sister Taylor (always said in a British accent to show how proper we are) and she is hilarious! And so clumsy she keeps us laughing all the time! Like the first thing she did when she got the MTC was turn around on the curb and knock over her suitcases and in the process of trying to pick  them up she knocked over the number sign they have on the curbs. I love her, we ate the cupcakes that sister Hall's sister sent her. (Her sister is a wedding cake person, I don’t know what to call it but she makes some dang good cake! She sent like 4 types of cupcakes and 6 types of frosting/fillings.) and Sister Taylor and I ate them at like 10pm right before bed. Not the best idea but it worked.

Oh and remember how we went and ate a big lunch because I wasn’t gonna eat until late? Yeah we ate at 4:30... lets juts say I wasn’t really all that hungry by then. Which is fine because the food is well its cafeteria food. Not great but not terrible. And two of the girls have gotten cinnamon rolls, one got cupcakes, and they are like eat my treats please! So I do, and they are delicious.

okay and there is sister Sagers, its not sag but its not sage, yeah I don’t know how to tell you that one. But she is so fun! We ran around the MTC campus during our gym time one day (which was great, I haven’t ran since I don’t even know when, Rexburg probably, and between the elevation, time, food and basically entire life changes my body was ready to go to sleep that night, which was good because it took me like an hour and a half to fall asleep the first night!)
Who else? Sister Hall is fun. She is quiet but super sassy, not as quiet as Keira and just as sassy as I am. Same with Elder Rusick which is probably why we get along so well. But sister Hall plays the Violin and our Branch President asked if we would do a flute/violin musical number in church on Sunday so I need to figure out how to rent a flute here today as well.
Sister Lecheminant (yeah its French, good luck) lost her voice like the day before we got here and still hasn’t gotten it back :( Which is sad. She I guess is an opera singer and got into the U to sing for them, that’s what the other sisters were telling me. But she is the oldest in her family and the 1st missionary (obviously) so when she got a package from her family she had this drawing from her 6 year old sister taht was completely illegible and totally adorable!
Oh and Sister Taylor, okay she is like me in a short little cute body. She hast heard anything from her parents yet and she has been waiting and waiting, one of her study people called her mom and explained to her how to send a dear elder and so Taylor thought she was going to get a letter the next day from her mom. And she didn’t, she got a letter from her friend telling her 'your mom says she is gonna kill you because she hasn’t heard from you yet' we all about died laughing at lunch! it was so funny!

Other things we get to do... well the Elders ditched us one night when we planned to go across the street and play sand volley ball (like what you saw mom) and they didn’t show up. So the 6 sisters all played, but mostly we were just yelling sorry at the court next to us and 'thank you' for giving our ball back to us. It was great, were super good.
Then another time we went and played 4 square in the gym (yes just like you did in elementary school) but instead of being the loser in line ALL the time, that only happened half the time and then I DOMINATED Elder Houston who was wearing his bat man shirt and I was wearing a super man shirt so obviously I’m better, I mean we all knew that already but now I get to tell him about it all the time because I’m super nice like that :)

What else? On Sundays we get to walk up to the Temple and back just for fun. So we did and we took some pictures but some of our district was gone so we didn’t get a ton of pics. Ill try and send some if I don’t run out of time. Anyhow.... and we got to go to the Temple today which was so good! I miss going to the Temple every week! But we only get to go on P-day and btw today is the only P-day we will get for like the first three weeks or something. We will leave on Tuesday which is before our Pday here and after our Pday in Philadelphia so yeah, I don’t know when I will email you next.

I guess everyone expects something spiritual from me so I talk about that part too.
The MTC is awesome, but every day you have a super high point and a super low point and each day you don’t know when it’s going to hit. I love being here, everyone said your lucky your here for such a short time. But I feel like every day I am learning and growing leaps and bounds! We have had two talks' devotionals which have changed my life and my relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ. Our leaders are so inspired and say exactly what I need to hear. I want more time but at the same time I am excited to get out into the mission field and start sharing what I know with people and how I can help them!

Thanks for the email and I got a letter from Stuart and from my roommate Whitney :)

Tell Lynsi and Estrella they better write me! I didn’t bring their addresses. And the MTC will forward anything that gets here after I leave so you can send a card or a post card or a letter Keira!
I also need Garrets address, tell him to write me and send it to me please! I have international stamps so I can send stuff to him right now. Or give him my email and I can email him too. Can I get both? Thanks :)
Welp I guess the computer isn’t going to let me attach pictures to show you. Awesome. I love computers. Sorry guys!

Id love to hear from anyone and everyone :) Love yall, Sister Wilson
